happynewyearJanuary 3, 2013 – Happy New Year to everyone! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that the coming year far exceeds your expectations (I know that is what I am hoping for…LOL). Lots of ups and downs last year… am hoping that 2013 is nothing but ups (LOL… does that sound weird?).

Life on the farm is pretty much the same as it has been for ages except now it is cold; there is snow; and we spend a lot more time in the house than outside. Blue and Coco are still pals in one paddock and CT & Seinfeld (our boarders’ horses) are buds in the other paddock. They don’t get to spend as much time outside these days as it gets darker earlier but I think they are fine with going in early when the weather is colder.

Oh, speaking of Blue… he seems to be finally letting his guard down and showing us some of his personality. He can have an attitude but most of the time he is a laid back sweetie. For the past little while, he seems to be getting up to mischief. He chomped on the fence a couple of times and he steals the lead ropes and plays with them… leaving them out in the middle of the paddock. Arrggh!

IMG_2174-smWe thought perhaps he may be a little bored so we bought him a jolly ball. Well… we were right and he is hilarious. He plays with that thing for hours at a time. Randy put a rope on it thinking he could swing it around more. He seems, however, to prefer holding the ball handle and actually taking the rope off. When he eventually throws the ball over the fence, he will find the rope and play with it. I swear he tries to hit Coco with it on purpose… he seems to walk to her when swinging it…LOL

On a different note, Buddy is no longer part of our family. He is now owned by a lovely family in the Collingwood area. Megan wasn’t able to spend as much time with him as she would like due to homework and she plans to go off the University next year so she decided to put him up for sale. Well, the first people to see him, bought him… he is that good of a horse. We will miss him terribly but he deserves to do what he loves more than he was getting a chance to do over the last few months. He will be doing a lot of competing in Eventing next year.

Other than that, not much else is new around the farm. The dogs and cats are the same (I hope to get another dog soon… really want a Yorkie).

IMG_1021-smOn a personal note… we managed to get through Christmas even though we are all missing dad so much. Thank goodness we have a close family and being together is very comforting. Mom came up and stayed here on the farm for 5 days. She seemed to really relax and had a good time. Every day she went for a walk, even though it is bitterly cold a few days, and would visit the horses while out there. I am pretty sure she enjoyed her time here (at least I hope she did :-)).

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013!

See you next time!
