DSCN4357-smJuly 11, 2011 – Well… the heat of summer has finally arrived and so have the summer bugs! Thankfully it isn’t too bad out there for the horses in the paddocks but we can’t go on any hacks or even walks in the woods. We could use a little more rain around here too. Everything is so dry and dusty. Thankfully Randy added an adapter to the faucet in the barn so we can water the veggie garden. It is doing great. Love fresh beets, radishes, beans, and more. Think I will plant less lettuce next year though. 🙂 We have WAY too much. Hey… can I feed lettuce to horses? 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »

DSCN4068-smJune 16, 2011 – It’s been another busy couple of weeks around here. The weather has been “mostly” pretty darn nice (aside from a little rain and one rather intimidating storm) so a lot of time outside doing this, that and the other thing. I hope wherever you are, you are having nice weather too. Now I am just hoping that the summer doesn’t end up being too hot and we get lots of time outdoors without out frying. And don’t get me started on the bugs. They are terrible this year. Even the “not normally bothered by bugs” horses are not happy. Might have to get fly sheets for all of them. 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »

IMG_0164-smMay 29, 2011 – This has been a week chalk full of news and, thankfully, most of it is pretty darn good news. Do you ever have one of those days where you sit back and think about everything you have and thank your lucky stars for the fortunate things in life? Well (aside from sounding way too deep here), this has been one of those days. I sit here thinking, “You know.. you are one lucky lady!” A wonderful family that I am proud of; a successful business (actually, a couple of them); great friends; and a beautiful piece of property that, although is in constant need of maintaining, is great to look out the window and see everyday. And of course the animals that are a never ending source of entertainment (and sometimes stress..LOL). Read the rest of this entry »

DSCN2814-sm,April 24, 2011 – Happy Easter, everyone! I don’t know about you but the longer, warmer (and sometimes dryer) days means spending more time with the horses and it really lift my spirits… even the bad things don’t seem so bad. So, today’s blog is all about the last week or so’s events and how we got through some of the issues and smiled through the good things. Read the rest of this entry »

EllieApril 6, 2011 – Well… I have really been slacking on updating my blog… shame on me. And I keep saying I will try to be more diligent  about updating and then it doesn’t happen. Life just gets in the way, I guess. So, I have come to the conclusion that trying to update this blog on a regular schedule will probably not be possible especially now the warmer weather is slowly happening and we spend more time outside with the horses. If you aren’t already a subscriber to this blog and just come by to see what’s new, you may want to subscribe so you are notified when something new is posted. Read the rest of this entry »

DSCN6123-smFebruary 22, 2011 – The countdown is on. It is fun to go out for a few rides in the snow but admit it… riding in the winter can be a pain in the you-know-what. Even spending time with the horses is limited as it is just too cold to be out there too long especially if you don’t have a heated barn (and we don’t :-(). So, the countdown to spring and warmer temperatures is on and it can’t come too soon! The only downfall to that is the thaw which causes loads of mud but other than that, I can’t wait for spring! DSCN5795-smFebruary 10, 2011 – Wow… I just realized it has been weeks since I have done an update on my blog. I am sooo sorry about that. I have just been so slammed with work and life in general. I did write a blog post a couple of weeks ago but I never published it. It was basically outlining a health issue that I am faced with right now (don’t worry… not life threatening) but then I decided that I didn’t need to burden anyone with that so it is sitting in my draft folder for now. Perhaps I will share one day but for right now, I will just hold off and only share the usual updates on the horses and other things that are on the go. Read the rest of this entry »

Ellie posing in the falling snowJanuary 18, 2011 – Well… the holidays are over (man they go by so fast) and winter has really set in now with regular snowfalls and bitterly cold temperatures. Time for a reality check… it’s back to our everyday normal lives. But man, it isn’t much fun doing horsey stuff when the temperatures are this cold and the horses are feeling the cold too so they are all double-blanketed right now. Read the rest of this entry »

DSCN5156-smDecember 15, 2010 – Ok… I admit it… I could really do without winter. Don’t get me wrong… I’m proud to be a Canadian but why wasn’t some nice warm continent chosen to be the place where the first Canadian flag flew? I am not a big fan of winter! Sure, I love having a white Christmas (and by the look of the snow that has been falling solid for 3 days now, we will definitely have one this year) but that’s it… that’s all the “winterlike” conditions I really want. And, I am not a winter sports kind of person. In fact, I prefer to leave the house as little as possible between November and March. Read the rest of this entry »

DSCN4595-smNovember 29, 2010 – I can’t believe that Christmas is less than a month away. The weather has definitely not been too Christmasy… until this past week. The temperatures took a tumble and we had our first dose of snow that is actually staying on the ground. It was quite the shock from recent weather but it is helping it to feel a little more like the Christmas season is upon us (that and the thousands of commercials that are reminding us :-)).
