June 14, 2010 – Can you believe that the kids only have about 1 week of school left before they are off for the summer? Megan has this week of classes  and then next week has her exams. After that, she will be home for 2 months… 2 months of “drive me here”, “I’m bored”, and “can my friends sleep over”. But it will also give her the opportunity to work more with Charlie and perfect his love of jumping. Read the rest of this entry »

June 1, 2010 – Phew… what a hot week it was around here last week! It was one of those kinds of weeks when you walk out the door and wham!… a wall of heat hits ya. Yuck! We usually have nice temperatures in May but this past week we even had heat alerts… it was sweltering. Is this a sign of things to come? Is this summer going to be a scorcher? I hope not and imagine the horses hope it isn’t either… the poor things were sweating just standing in the paddock. Read the rest of this entry »

Megan-Charlie3-smMay 24, 2010 – Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canadian horse lovers. And since I decided to spend time with friends and family instead of working today, I also set aside some time to update you on our past week here at Shady Ridge. Did I mention how well the girls and horses did at last weeks in-house show at Greyden? LOL Yeah… I guess I did gush a little in my last post but I am just so proud of both horses and Megan & Harley (not to mention everyone at Greyden… it was a wonderful day!). May 17, 2010 – We started off this past week on the right foot and it just got better and better. One of those weeks where there were lots of smiles plus horses and kids that make you so proud. And friends that you can’t thank enough for all the help and everything they do!

Megan-Charlie-tinyFirst and foremost, Charlie Trailer Training Update… Charlie finally got on to a trailer last Monday and went for a little ride. Sandra (again… thank you, thank you!) brought her bigger trailer by so we could see if Charlie would get on. It took a little bit of coaxing but he eventually he was on far enough for the butt bar to be put up. When he realized it was there, he jumped around for a few minutes but Randy stayed by his head and calmed him down. Then the ramp went up and he was breathing heavy but we closed it all up and Sandra, Carole and Randy took him for a ride around the block (which is actually about a 10 minute ride…LOL) When he got back, he came off pretty quickly and was very sweaty. We were jumping up and down excited for the success. Read the rest of this entry »

May 10, 2010 – Sorry I am a little late getting this week’s update done but it has been a very busy weekend. We spent Saturday doing this, that, and the other thing including trying to load up the horses to take them to Greyden (I’ll fill you in on that below) and spent time with my mom on Sunday for Mother’s Day which was great! Hope all moms had a great Mother’s Day. Read the rest of this entry »

Perky-smApril 25, 2010 – Have you hugged your horse today? Most equine people have a bond with the horses they own and/or the horses they ride and a good hug every time you see them not only shows them your love but offers you comfort and becomes a happy part of your memories should something happen to them.  I found out today that one of the horses I love to ride at the barn passed away overnight. I didn’t realize I could become so emotional over something like this. However, I rode her last week and it was one of the best rides we have ever had together so remembering that is helping me and remembering how I used to hug her all the time and compliment her on her beautiful doe eyes:-). My heart goes out to Jess, the little girl who was part-boarding her. You will be sadly missed Perky! And this post is dedicated to you, pretty girl. (see… am I emotional or what?) April 19, 2010 – What an awesome week we had. Lots of positive things happened this past week which hopefully are a precursor to a wonderful summer of horses, horse shows and farm life.  And yes… I had my camera handy for most of it so took lots of pics and videos.  Let’s get started (and let me apologize for the length of this post… lots to tell you)… Read the rest of this entry »

February 7, 2010 – Welcome everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful week. Is it just me or are your all dreaming of spring and being able to get outside for longer than a few minutes without freezing your petutie off? :-) I know I am! I just don’t seem to have the momentum to bundle myself up just to go outside. Not to mention only being able to be out there for a short period before wanting to get back in where it is warm.
